Canon adopts an "eco-tech" approach to work that creates harmony between ecology and technology. From product design, to manufacturing, to sales, Canon works to conserve energy and resources, maximize product lifecycles and eliminate hazardous materials from their products and processes.
Canon is leading the charge to make green its manufacturing and workplace processes by operating the world's largest toner cartridge return program, designing energy-efficient office equipment, removing 100 percent of the lead from their photographic lenses, and encouraging employees to adopt environmentally sound work practices.
Canon Australia has become an even stronger environmental leader with ISO 14001 accreditation at all Canon branch locations.
Cartridges for Planet Ark
To help Canon actively achieve their environmental goals, Canon Australia has also joined forces with
Planet Ark in a unique environmental programme called Cartridges 4 Planet Ark aimed at remanufacturing or recycling laser and inkjet printer ink cartridges.
Canon National Eco-Centre Located in Sydney's Wetherill Park, the National Eco-Centre provides a refurbishment and recycling facility for a range of Canon products and parts.
Along with all other Canon Australia sites, the Eco-Centre is certified to ISO 14001.
Byteback
Byteback is a free computer takeback program to help people dispose of unwanted computer equipment responsibly. Byteback is an Australian first as government and industry are sharing responsibility for disposing of computer waste safely.
Sustainability Victoria is running Byteback in partnership with the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA) and founding industry partners, including Canon. There are currently two sites in Camberwell and Geelong. Byteback will run in Victoria until the end of 2008.
