Drop Modulation Technology produces droplets of two sizes: small droplets to reduce graininess, and large droplets to improve the efficiency of high-density printing with the Canon S4500. This combination of two droplet sizes enables the Canon S4500 high print quality to be achieved at faster printing speeds.

All standard and optional ink tanks employ Canon's new brilliant inks. The colours are more vivid with more fade resistance and text and lines are sharper and clearer with the Canon S4500. The Canon S4500 has accurate, easy-to-read ink level detector system. Accurate ink-level detectors in the Canon S4500s cartridge provide "Ink Low" and "Ink Out" warning messages as ink levels drop. This warning system helps the Canon S4500 prevent wastage caused by ink running out during printing.
